Message from the Chairman of the Justice for Women Founation
My name is Athia Adams and I am the founder of the Justice for Women Foundation which was created on January 1, 2021. This initiative was born as a result of the circumstances of the death of Ashanti Riley in December, 2020.
A spirit of volunteerism is a critical factor in all communities. It embeds principles of compassion and empathy within individuals regardless of their background or social standing. At an early age, being an instrumental factor within my community has always been a driving force.
I found myself driven to help others in my community and this has inspired me to continue work in this area. I also became conscious of how elements of crime can be detrimental to future generations. This awareness has acted as a motivating influence in my quest for self-development to be able to empower others to improve their lives.
My desire to effect change has grown exponentially as I was a victim of a broken family structure. Additionally, I examined the vulnerability of women within Trinidad and Tobago, which further reinforced the need for change. Issues such as but not limited to the number of women who are missing; victims of domestic violence and victims of fatal attacks prioritized, the need for a foundation of this nature.
The purpose of the Justice for Women Foundation is to change the fabric of society by: Teaching women how to value themselves Teaching men how to treasure women
